Capacity Building Support to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) （Overview）

Through JICA framework, the Japan Coast Guard's Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT) has been providing capacity-building support to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard on maritime law enforcement and search and rescue since fiscal year 2025.
In the basic training and fundamental exercises provided to date, the team carried out investigative exercises focused on evidence preservation and preparation of documentation recording such activities as part of maritime law enforcement. In search and rescue, they conducted workshops on formulating rescue plans simulating actual operations, as well as simulated drill assuming the rescue of persons in distress from a stranded vessel.
In addition, the team reported the progress of the training program to the Sri Lanka Coast Guard Headquarters and the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka.
We will continue to respond with precise care to their requests regarding our support through consultations. While strengthening our relationships of trust, MCT will effectively implement capacity-building support by maintaining consistency and continuity.
The JCG will strengthen cooperation and collaboration with the coast guard Mobile Cooperation Team agencies of other countries to realize Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP), while supporting capacity-building efforts for countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
