JCG Dispatches NST and MCT Officers as Instructors to Australia! ~JCG's Initiatives toward the Realization of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific~

 From 18 May to 22 May 2026, the Japan Coast Guard dispatched one officer from the National Strike Team (NST), a specialist team for responding to oil spills and Hazardous and Noxious Substances (HNS), and one officer from the Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT), a dedicated team providing capacity-building support to coast guard agencies in other countries, as instructors to the MDA Workshop organized by the Australian Border Force (ABF) for officers from coast guard agencies in the Indo-Pacific region.

1.Overview

 The JCG continues its efforts to protect the marine environment and will further strengthen cooperation and collaborative relationships with coast guard agencies of various countries, including the Australian Boarder Force, as well as promote capacity-building support for Indo-Pacific coastal states toward the realization of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" based on the rule of law.

 In response to a request from ABF, and as a part of effort to support capacity-building for officers from coast guard agencies in the Indo-Pacific region, the JCG dispatched one officer each from NST and MCT to this Workshop. They participated as instructors in classroom lectures and tabletop exercise regarding to oil spill response etc.
