Capacity Building Support for the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)
Through the JICA framework, the Japan Coast Guard dispatched the MCT and officers from the Coast Guard Research Center to the Philippines to support the enhancement of maritime law enforcement capabilities. There, they provided guidance and advice to PCG criminal investigation instructors and personnel responsible for analyzing marine environmental incidents (such as oil spills and industrial wastewater discharge) on initial investigation and forensic procedures-including on-site preservation, photography, collection of samples and materials, and evidence preservation-as well as evidence collection and analysis related to marine environmental incidents.
The JCG will continue to strengthen cooperationand collaboration with the coast guard agencies of other countries to realize a Free and Open Indo-Pacific(FOIP), while also promoting capacity-building support for countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
