Infomation Gathering System

Land-based communication stations and other such facilities throughout Japan maintain continuos watch on distress frequencies corresponding to GMDSS(Global Maritime Distress & Safety System) twenty-four hours a day and maintain a system for taking prompt actions at all times to ensure quick and appropriate maritime rescues. In addition, to operate the Japanese Ship Reporting System (JASREP) obtains ships' positions and other information through short-wave radio and other such means to communicate with vessels navigating on the open seas.

Japanese Ship Reporting System(JASREP)
JASREP makes it possible to conduct quick and appropriate search and rescue activities when a maritime accident occurs. It does this by monitoring the movements of vessels through the use of computers to control information provided by vessels, such as their sailing plans and position reports during their voyage.
